Scar Revision

Don’t let your scars hold you back.

A scar can be an unsettling reminder of past trauma. When it’s on the face, it can be disfiguring and a source of significant insecurity. While we cannot restore the skin to a totally unblemished appearance, we can revise a scar to make it much less apparent. This can be done with surgery, laser resurfacing, or both!

Patients have the option to choose whether they prefer surgery with or without anesthesia. The surgical procedure aims to reposition the scar vector, making it less conspicuous and promoting better healing. Laser resurfacing can be used as an adjunct to level scars that are raised or oddly textured.

Frequently Asked Questions

No! No matter the age of the scar, there are options for scar revision and enhancement to improve its appearance. We wish we had a magic eraser to delete them permanently. Unfortunately, this is not possible. However, there are many techniques to help them blend into the surrounding skin so they are not as readily visible to the naked eye.

This depends on many factors, including the appearance and location of the scar, its age, and any concurrent medical issues. During your consultation, all this will be assessed and recommendations will be made. Treatments range from steroid injections and dermabrasion to surgical excision and closure.

The two rules for scar camouflage are sun protection and moisture! The more you can limit exposure to the sun, the better. If you have to go out, use sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher. Using silicone sheeting or gel to keep the scar moist, especially if it is fresh, will help it heal better than if it stays dry.

Typically, no. Most scar revision procedures can be done either under local anesthesia or with minimal sedation, depending on the extent of reconstruction. Steroid injections and dermabrasion can be done in the office while awake.
